The Use of Force Experts Conference

Additionally, significant emphasis has been placed on user engagement, so the graphics are designed to grab attention and convey key information efficiently. We also had to consider various display formats, adjusting the dimensions and layout of the designs to suit different advertising channels, from social media banners to website graphics.

Throughout the project, I’ve relied heavily on industry-standard design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. These programs allowed me to craft high-quality visuals that met the technical requirements of both digital and print formats, while also offering flexibility for design iterations based on feedback.

The Use of Force Experts Conference is an annual event hosted by the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) and the Law Enforcement Training Association (LETA). It brings together expert speakers from the legal profession, law enforcement agencies, and academia, offering an international perspective on the latest trends in research, training, and case law related to the use of force. I was tasked with creating a variety of graphic materials for the event, including digital advertisements, posters, flyers, and branded merchandise.

In 2023, I joined the project as an assistant designer, contributing to the development of visual assets while closely collaborating with the lead designer and stakeholders. My role primarily focused on ensuring that each design piece effectively communicated the conference's themes and maintained a professional and cohesive visual identity. As the conference involves high-profile institutions such as JIBC and LETA, it was crucial to adhere to their strict blue color palette and create designs that reflected the disciplined, authoritative nature of law enforcement organizations.

Looking ahead to 2024, I will assume the role of lead designer for the event, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the conference's graphic design. This includes not only print materials but also an expanded focus on digital advertising. Given the growing importance of online promotion, we are creating responsive designs for various platforms and devices, ensuring consistency across all mediums. I’ve worked closely with the conference organizers to develop a design approach that is not only visually appealing but also functional, straightforward, and aligned with the conference's mission.
