Judo and Self Defence - A Must Have Skill For Women by Sandra Garofalo Le Bris

I was responsible for managing typography, layout, and photography for the autobiography of French national champion Sandra Garofalo le Bris. While the book centers around the theme of self-defense, our design approach aimed to appeal to a broad female audience. To achieve this, I carefully selected fonts and colors that conveyed a sense of femininity, gentleness, and empowerment. The typography choices played a key role in making the book feel approachable, with slightly larger fonts for enhanced readability, especially given the primary distribution through e-books.

For the photography, I focused on capturing Sandra’s confidence and strength while maintaining an overall soft and approachable tone. This was achieved through careful lighting techniques and subtle post-production effects. The instructional photos illustrating self-defense techniques were also treated with the same aesthetic to ensure they were accessible and not intimidating, allowing readers to engage with the material comfortably.

Additionally, I incorporated interactive elements, such as embedded video links, which enriched the reading experience by offering visual demonstrations of the techniques covered. This multimedia aspect made the book not only educational but also highly engaging. The combination of clear layout, thoughtful design, and multimedia integration makes this self-defense book highly recommended for women of all ages, as it offers both practical insights and an inviting, accessible format.

Throughout this project, I leveraged design principles that balanced strength with subtlety, creating a visual narrative that matched Sandra's personal journey while ensuring the content remained relatable to a wide audience.
